How to Register To Vote In District of Columbia State

As a resident of District of Columbia state, you can register to vote for the 60th US presidential election (to be held on Nov 5th, 2024) using the following steps:

Confirm Your Voter Eligibility

To register you must meet the following criteria:
  • be a US Citizen (including those born in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands)
  • Be a resident of the District of Columbia
  • Maintain residency in the District of Columbia for at least 30 days prior to the election in which you intend to vote
  • Not claim voting residence or the right to vote in another U.S. state or territory
  • Be at least 17 years old (You may register to vote if you are at least 16 years old. You may vote in a primary election if you are at least 17 years old and you will be at least 18 years old by the next general election. You may vote in a general or special election if you are at least 18 years old).
  • Not have been found by a court to be legally incompetent to vote

Online Registration

To register online you need:
  • A District of Columbia DMV issued driver license or identification card.
  • The last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (SSN).
  • A current address in the District of Columbia to be used as your home voting address.
Navigate to District of Columbia's online voter registration and complete the form before the Online Registration Deadline: October 15th, 2024

Mail-in Registration

  1. Download the Federal Voter Registration Form
  2. Print out the form (pages 4 and 5) and fill it out using our helpful tips below.
    • Fill out the form with your personal information.
    • #6 ID Number. Federal law now requires that all voter registration applications must include either the applicant's driver's license number or the last four digits of the applicant's social security number in order to be processed.
    • #7 Choice of Party. You must register with a party if you want to take part in that party's primary election, caucus, or convention.
    • #8 Race or Ethnic Group. Leave Blank.
    • #9 Signature Sign and date the application to attest the data you entered is true and that you meet eligibility requirements.
  3. Mail the completed form to the following address. The completed form must be received by October 15th, 2024.
