How to Register To Vote In New York State

Confirm Your Voter Eligibility

• be a US Citizen (including those born in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands)
• be a resident of the county, or of the City of New York, at least 30 days before an election
• be 18 years old (you may pre-register at 16 or 17 but cannot vote until you are 18)
• not be in prison for a felony conviction
• not currently be judged incompetent by order of a court of competent judicial authority
• not claim the right to vote elsewhere

Online Registration

• a New York State DMV issued driver license, permit or Non-Driver ID. (Use the one most recently issued to you if you have more than one).
• The last 4 digits of your SSN.
• A valid email address.
• The ZIP Code currently on record with the DMV.

Mail-in Registration

1. Download the Federal Voter Registration Form
2. Print out the form (pages 4 and 5) and fill it out using our helpful tips below.
   • Fill out the form with your personal information.
   • #6 ID Number. Federal law requires that you provide your driver's license number to register to vote. If you do not have a driver's license then you will have to provide at least the last four digits of your social security number. If you have neither, please write "NONE" on the form. A unique identifying number will be assigned to you by your State.
   • #7 Choice of Party. You must enroll with a party if you want to vote in that party's primary election or caucus.
   • #8 Race or Ethnic Group. Leave Blank.
   • #9 Signature Sign and date the application to attest the data you entered is true and that you meet eligibility requirements.
3. Mail the completed form to the following address. The completed form must be received by October 26th, 2024.
