How to Register To Vote In South Carolina State

As a resident of South Carolina state, you can register to vote for the 60th US presidential election (to be held on Nov 5th, 2024) using the following steps:

Confirm Your Voter Eligibility

To register you must meet the following criteria:
  • be a US Citizen (including those born in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands)
  • be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
  • be a resident of South Carolina, your county and precinct
  • not be confned in any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime
  • never have been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws, or if previously convicted, have served your entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction
  • not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent
  • claim the address on the application as your only legal place of residence and claim no other place as your legal residence

Online Registration

To register online you need:
  • South Carolina Driver's License or DMV ID Card
  • Social Security Number
Navigate to South Carolina's online voter registration and complete the form before the Online Registration Deadline: October 6th, 2024

Mail-in Registration

  1. Download the Federal Voter Registration Form
  2. Print out the form (pages 4 and 5) and fill it out using our helpful tips below.
    • Fill out the form with your personal information.
    • #6 ID Number. You must provide at least the last four digits of your social security number. You may provide your full social security number on a voluntary basis. Social security number does not appear on any report produced by the State Election Commission nor is it released to any unauthorized individual. (South Carolina Title 7-5-170)
    • #7 Choice of Party. You do not have to register with a party if you want to take part in that party's primary election, caucus, or convention.
    • #8 Race or Ethnic Group. You are required to fill in this box. Your application may be rejected if you fail to do so.
      Use the choice that best describes you from the list below:
      • American Indian or Alaskan Native
      • Asian or Pacifc Islander
      • Black, not of Hispanic Origin
      • Hispanic
      • Multi-racial
      • White, not of Hispanic Origin
      • Other
    • #9 Signature Sign and date the application to attest the data you entered is true and that you meet eligibility requirements.
  3. Mail the completed form to the following address. The completed form must be received by October 6th, 2024.
