How to Register To Vote In South Dakota State
As a resident of South Dakota state, you can register to vote for the 60th US presidential election (to be held on Nov 5th, 2024) using the following steps:

Confirm Your Voter Eligibility
To register you must meet the following criteria:
- be a US Citizen (including those born in Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands)
- Reside in South Dakota
- Be at least 18 years old on or before the next election
- Not currently serving a sentence for a felony conviction which included imprisonment, served or suspended, in an adult penitentiary system
- Not be judged mentally incompetent by a court of law South Dakota Codifed Law 12-4-6,12-4-8,l2-l-9,l2-l-4,12-4-18, South Dakota Constitution, Article VII, Section 2
Online Registration
South Dakota state does not support Online Registration.
Mail-in Registration
- Download the Federal Voter Registration Form
- Print out the form (pages 4 and 5) and fill it out using our helpful tips below.
- Fill out the form with your personal information.
- #6 ID Number. Any person registering to vote shall provide the person's valid South Dakota driver license number or a South Dakota nondriver identifcation number on the voter registration form. If a person does not have a valid South Dakota driver license or a South Dakota nondriver identifcation number, the person shall provide the last four digits of the person's social security number on the voter registration form. If a person does not have a valid South Dakota driver license, a South Dakota nondriver identifcation number, or a social security number, the person may only register at the county auditor's Office and shall sign a statement verifying the fact that the person does not have a valid South Dakota driver license, a South Dakota nondriver identifcation number, or a social security number. South Dakota Codifed Law 12-4-5.4
- #7 Choice of Party. If you are currently registered to vote and you leave the choice of party feld blank, you will remain registered with your current party affiliation. If you are not currently registered to vote and you leave the choice of party feld blank, you will be entered as an independent/no party affiliation voter, which is not a political party in South Dakota. - #8 Race or Ethnic Group. Leave Blank.
- #9 Signature Sign and date the application to attest the data you entered is true and that you meet eligibility requirements.
- Mail the completed form to the following address. The completed form must be received by October 21st, 2024.
